Tell Oil Companies to Do More to Protect Wildlife and Sacred Places

Major oil and gas companies—including BP, Chevron, Conoco Phillips, ExxonMobil, Hilcorp, 88 Energy, and Shell—declined to participate in the auction for leases to drill across more than 400,000 acres of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. The absence of major bidders temporarily limits the threats that developing this irreplaceable landscape would cause to wildlife and the Arctic’s Gwich’in people.

This is a win for polar bears and people, but we now must urge these same companies to make a commitment to avoid drilling in important wildlife habitat or where Tribal cultures will be harmed. Send a message to oil and gas companies, urging them not to exploit, but to responsibly safeguard ALL of America’s wild places and sacred landscapes.
