For the second time, a mother orca named Tahlequah has been carrying her dead calf for days, appearing to grieve her loss. The Southern Resident orca population is dwindling, as Chinook salmon runs—which provide around 80% of their diet—have been pushed to the brink of extinction. Removing the four lower Snake River dams is the most effective action we can take to recover these salmon—and renew Southern Resident orcas’ major food source.
Urge Governor Ferguson to replace the services of these dams, honor treaty rights, and modernize our region’s infrastructure—for a brighter future for orcas like Tahlequah.
