Protect Florida’s State Parks for Wildlife
State parks provide essential habitat for vulnerable wildlife as well as spaces where people can enjoy nature with their family. Leaked information showed that the Florida Department of Environmental Protection and Governor DeSantis are proposing changes to destroy and degrade habitat in some state parks in order to build golf courses and hotel resorts that could jeopardize vulnerable wildlife. After public backlash, Governor DeSantis announced the state agency is ‘going back to the drawing board’, but it has not yet announced a complete end of this proposal.
These types of threats to our parks have happened in the past, and will happen again if we are not vigilant. Many of these lands were purchased with conservation dollars. Help protect the remaining wild places in a state where lands are quickly being converted for development.
