Dear Senator,
As you know, two years ago, Congress passed important oil and gas leasing reforms that restored fairness to taxpayers by charging market prices for the privilege of using our public lands for development.

Recently, the White House issued a rule that reinforces those reforms and strengthens them by requiring oil and gas companies to clean up the messes they leave behind. For far too long, oil and gas companies were allowed to leave behind thousands of abandoned wells that leaked toxins into our air, water, and public lands–leaving taxpayers to pay for the cleanup. The new rule will end that practice so that wildlife and our public lands can thrive.

Unfortunately, some in Congress now want to undo this commonsense rule. That would be a grave mistake that would once again leave American taxpayers on the hook to clean up the messes that oil and gas companies leave behind.

I urge you to support wildlife – and American taxpayers – by rejecting any effort to overturn the rule. Please continue to be a wildlife champion and support the long-overdue reforms that ensure our public lands are better managed for the enjoyment of all.
