Protect Great Lakes Wildlife from an Oil Spill: Decommission Line 5

Piping Plovers

Lying beneath the surface of the Great Lakes, an aging pipeline threatens our Great Lakes, our water, our communities, and our way of life.

Enbridge’s Line 5 carries up to 23 million gallons of oil and natural gas liquids through the Straits of Mackinac each day. A large oil spill would have a devastating impact on shoreline habitat, endangered species like the piping plover, and the Great Lakes tourism and outdoor recreation economy. Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer has the ability to terminate the Enbridge’s easement to operate Line 5 in the Straits and protect our Great Lakes — but she has not done so.

Call on Governor Whitmer to decommission Line 5 to protect our Great Lakes, water, and wildlife.
