Our federal government just took a major step to negate protections provided by the Endangered Species Act. The new change permits harming or killing threatened or endangered species as long as intent to harm or kill is not proven. The doors have been opened widely to allow the destruction and degradation of habitat—even direct and indirect killing of threatened and endangered species—as long as there is no proven intent.

I care about America’s wildlife. I am alarmed that our federal government just took a major step to negate protections provided by the Endangered Species Act. According to a recent internal Fish and Wildlife Service memo, the only way now that an individual or company will be considered in violation of this important conservation law is if an individual animal is directly and intentionally targeted. The doors have been opened widely to allow the destruction and degradation of habitat—even direct and indirect killing of threatened and endangered species—as long as there is no proven intent.
